Strategic Business Developer

Our client, a leading advisor in risk management, employee benefits, and insurance, wants to establish a new business development team consisting of five Business Developers. As a Business Developer, you will act as a strategic sparring partner to the clients, you will have an in-depth understanding of the challenges the clients faces and provide customized solutions.

The client portfolio is globally diversified and includes all market segments, (individuals through personal lines, mid-market companies, and large global companies) and almost every industry in the economy.

The mission is to become the leading professional services firm providing advice and solutions in Risk, Retirement, and Health at a time that those topics have never been more important to the global economy. The objective is to offer the best solution for the client and to further strengthen the position of the company.

To realise this ambition, a new business development team will be established, consisting of five Business Developers that will act as strategic partners to new and existing clients.


As a Strategic Business Developer you will act as a sparring partner to their clients, understanding in depth the challenges their client faces and to provide customized solutions.

  • Building and maintaining new and existing client relationship. Building on own and new network with the goal to create an entrance on a strategic level.
  • Providing professional advice on solutions that create value for the client.
  • Following trends and developments in the market and making strategic analyses.
  • Gathering market information and making the translation into business opportunities.
  • Mapping and realizing (caring/monitoring, taking action) different growth opportunities this in close cooperation with colleagues for the account team, to determine where opportunities are and to secure cooperation by communication and involvement.
  • Perform client analyses and identify cross-sell options.
  • Developing new client propositions (product development), although this is not the core responsibility of the Strategic Business Developer.
  • Taking care of an account management plan per account and monitoring its follow-up.
  • Conducting pitch and acquisition processes in collaboration with Industry Directors or Account Managers.


  • Master degree, with numeric and/or commercial orientation
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, with a substantial part in professional BtB Business Development, preferably in Financial Solutions.
  • Experienced and understands the dynamics and challenges within an international matrix organization
  • Perfect command of the Dutch and English language in word and writing
  • Has excellent communication and social skills
  • Strong persuasion skills
